India?

26 Oct

It’s size is just a little bigger than Argentina.  It’s population is just a little smaller than China.  I had no idea.  I knew there were a lot of people in India, but just a handful fewer than China?

The reaction we’ve gotten from people when we tell them we’re off to India is mind blowing.  “oh, you will have the best time!”, “it’s really dirty there, bring shoes that you will throw away before you leave”, “are you crazy?  I would never go to a place like that”, “you are?!?!”.

We are.  Marci and I and our 44 pounds each.  We are also traveling with our very dear friends Mindy and Roger. The four of us have been on adventures before.  There was that time in the BVI that we ran out of rum…

In this adventure we’ll be traveling through Rajastan.  It’s called a state.  India is comprised of states, like the United States.  We’ll fly from Newark to Delhi.  A 14 hour flight.  I have never been in a plane for that long.  I have been told to sleep so I won’t be jet lagged and told that I have to walk around a fair amount so I don’t get clots.  I may end up as one giant, exhausted blood clot by the time we land.

But that’s not for two more days.  Now it’s the last minute things that occupy us.  iPhone charger?  Check.  Extra digital camera card?  Check.  Shoes we can throw away when we leave India?  Check.

you’re comin’ with us

I think one of the things that attracts me most to travel is getting to share the stories. And there are always stories. It all starts out innocently enough. But things just happen. When you push the envelope, things just happen.

So I am looking forward to sharing the stories with you right here. As we get into the trip, you’ll learn about us, where we are headed and yes, the stories.

Because you are on the trip with us, I want to know what you want to do, too. So don’t be shy about leaving a comment or request. If there’s a spot you want us to visit along the way, or a picture you want us to take, if we can, we will.

You just won’t have to stand in line at customs.

gettin’ ready

First post.  Good thing you won’t read this until it’s the second or third.

We’ve started the packing process for India.  It’s truly incredible that you can put everything you might think you might need for four weeks, six climates, two people and ten cities into a bag that the airlines won’t reject or charge you an extra five hundred dollars for.  And right about now I’m not sure that we will.

Not to mention the cameras and the chargers and the accessories that will help us keep a bit of civilization with us as we venture into the unknown.

But we are sooo excited.  We are so lucky to have this opportunity.  To travel to a far away land with our dear friends and have an adventure that I know will make a lifetime of memories.

Now what did I do with that converter?
