On Friday, we’ll depart for points south. Waaay south. Planning a trip that takes you to one of the most southern National Parks in the world, and to one of the cities that you just didn’t want to go to a few years ago, and to an island that you just couldn’t go to a few years ago takes a bit of planning, some creative packing to handle the various climates, and the ability to say “Ahhhh.”
In fact, Marci has gotten to calling this the Ah trip. So let me give you a quick preview.
This Friday morning, after celebrating the Red Sox winning the World Series, we’ll be at the international terminal at JFK to board our JetBlue flight to Cartagena, Columbia. On the Caribbean Sea, Cartagena is a city that is most recently famous for a certain Secret Service scandal last year but it is actually a beautiful, historic walled city that is being touted as one of the great up and coming destinations. So the first Ah is Cartagen-ah, get it?
Next we’ll make a 24 hour trek by air to Torres Del Paines National Park in Patagonia. Home of some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, we’ll staying right in the park under the towering mountains that provide the backdrop for this spectacular place.
From there we’ll head north to the wine country of Argentina known as Mendoza. If you enjoy a good Malbec, Mendoza is your place. It will be springtime when we arrive and we’ll be staying at a beautiful vineyard just as the vines are coming to life after their winter rest.
Our last stop will be Cuba where we will join with a group of photographers to try and capture the character of a country that has been forbidden to Americans until recently. While you can’t simply go as a tourist (unless you’re Beyonce), there are groups that do get permission and that is how we are going.
It should be another trip full of great experiences that we are happy to share with you as we have them. So stay warm and read along as we take you exploring once again.
P.S. Our reward for this blog is hearing from you. So please, even before we go, make a quick comment to let us know you’re there. Thanks, and a hasta la vista!
Have a fabulous and safe trip. Please tell J&J if they need any”older” adult backup, to call us.
When will you be home?
